The Floating Community

The floating community is a book about a community of people in Copenhagen, who do not fit into the modern world’s fixed and ordered way of life. They have created their own homes on the water, where they live a, in many ways freer and less consuming, but culturally and spiritually richer, life than most. This is reminiscent of the sea-nomadic cultures that once existed around the world, which adapted to nature, but have been suppressed or directly wiped out by modern, western culture. The book is based on 3 years of action research in the floating sanctuary of Erdkehlgraven on the waters of Holmen, known as both the Pirate Harbor and the Port of Peace, their experiments with simple low-tech solutions for off-grid living and studies of sea nomads and other nomadic cultures.
