Celebrating Faaborg Museum 1915-2015.  In 2015 Carl Petersen’s beautiful building for Faaborg Museum turned a hundred years old. The building was intended to house the art collection that Mads Rasmussen, patron of art and manufacturer of tinned foods, had begun in 1910 – and which was now fast outgrowing its former premises, namely Rasmussen’s summer residence on the first floor of Konservesgården (The Cannery Yard). One of the Funen Painters, Peter Hansen, had supported the choice of Carl Petersen as the architect, and the museum was the result of a close collaboration between the artists, the architect, and the patron – in perfect harmony. Mads Rasmussen left the creative decisions to the artists and the architect, and the latter then invited others to join the creative process: Kaare Klint designed the Faaborg chair and the rest of the furniture in collaboration with Carl Petersen and Knud V.Engelhardt designed the museum logo, the manual catalogue, and the brass numbers adorning the individual paintings. This building is now regarded as a main work in Danish classicist architecture. The museum is a Gesamtkunstwerk, in which painting, sculpture, architecture, and furniture design merge into one.
