Monograph about the Danish architect Svenn Eske Kristensen (1905-2000).
Danish architect Svenn Eske Kristensen was a Royal Building Inspector, taught at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts for 20 years, was a member of countless government boards and commissions, and had his own architectural practice. In the 20th century he made a significant mark on Danish housing construction - always with a focus on familial wellbeing in good-quality and financially obtainable buildings. His style was a low-key Danish variant of modernism.
He was inspired by Le Corbusier's ideas, and the well-being of the family was one of his strong motivations. He fought against the trend for building flats very small, and became a leading advocate for the industrialisation of building. Buildings designed by Svenn Eske Kristensen are often characterised by a restrained idiom, showing how functionalist ideas were interpreted in Denmark.
Richly illustrated with drawings and photos etc. Photographs by Jens Markus Lindhe. Danish language edition.
